Susan G. Komen for the Cure has long been at the forefront of breast cancer education and innovation in the field of fundraising. Once again, Komen is branching out and becoming involved in the next big movement on the breast cancer horizon through the Komen Co-Survivor Program. This unique program recognizes and honors those who have supported breast cancer patients and survivors throughout their journeys.
Who is a Co-Survivors? They are family, friends, doctors or colleagues. Co-survivors offer support in both big and small ways, not only in the stages of diagnosis and treatment, but over the course of a lifetime.
Komen Co-Survivor Educational Information
This sites will provide emotional support, educational resources, tips and practical information on ways to be a helpful co-survivor. Visit this Komen mini-site for useful information including printable, easily-understood information about breast cancer; tips on what to say or do when someone is diagnosed with breast cancer; a co-survivor message board for idea exchange; a collection of inspiring co-survivor stories; and links to other sources of information. This helpline offers trained, caring volunteers and staff members who understand the unique situations that patients and co-survivors face. Helpline representatives answer questions, give moral support and connect more than 20,000 co-survivors annually with information they need, both in Spanish and English. Friends and loved ones with concerns about breast cancer can call 1-800 I’M AWARE (1-800-462-9273) Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST.
Co-Survivor Merchandise and Materials
Komen Co-Survivor merchandise is available in the Marketplace at www.komen.org. While there are many gifts and pieces of merchandise that would be appropriate for survivors and co-survivors, there are a few specific items that are unique to the co-survivor concept.
